TFBD Jul/Aug 2010 Series: Class 5 Notes

Big apologies! First, these notes are late. Second, I said in class that we have 2 more classes left. But I am mistaken. We have 3 more classes left. Whew! So, I'm even more confident we'll finish the choreography with flying colors.

So how are you enjoying the series so far? It's SLOW, isn't it? I hope you take advantage of the slowness of the movements and really feel the movement. It's tough enough to do a movement slowly, but when the tempo of the music is slow too... you have to put in your own personality and energy. If you want to talk muscles, then yes, we're using our muscles. We can imagine yourself driving a car. We don't always press the gas pedal all the way in and fully off. No one drives like that, or at least they shouldn't! We press the gas pedal gently, maybe even tap it, and sometimes it is a little more pressed down so that we can go a little faster. Regardless though, in order to move or go anywhere, you have to sustain. That gas pedal must be pressed. So, with dancing and using muscles, we do just that. We gauge how much to contract or "press" at a time. Sometimes we want to use a little more muscle. Sometimes we use just enough to sustain the movement.

Here's a recap of the new dance combos we covered in class:

4:23 - 5:16 [new]
Combo 7:

  • Arms Waves Right (4ct), Left (4ct)
  • Lateral Bodywave Right (8ct)
  • Figure 8 Right (8ct)
  • Hip Ups Right (1), Left (+), Right (2), Left (+); Shimmy (3-8)
  • Figure 8 Left (8ct)
  • Lateral Bodywave Left (8ct)

Combo 8:

  • Back to Front Figure 8, start Left (16ct) - optional level change down
  • Hip circle start right, counter-clockwise (4 ct)
  • Hip circle, same as above, but with shimmy (4ct)
  • Draw arms back, right arm all the way back, as if bowing (6ct)
  • Cross turn over right (2ct)

We will recap the choreography on Thursday. Then, we'll add to it with a few more new movements.

See you Thursday!
