Austin Belly Dance Convention 2011

It's not too late! You can purchase tickets at the door. Here is the press release:

Annual Austin Bellydance Convention, June 3-5, 2011

The annual Austin Bellydance Convention (ABDC) is open to the public and takes place the first weekend of June 3-5, 2011, at the Holiday Inn Midtown near Highland Mall.
Free to the public on Saturday afternoon, 2-5pm: Stage belly dance performances and shopping with select vendors for imported Egyptian and Turkish belly dance costumes, music, jewelry, and instructional/performance DVDs.

Workshops and lectures are available for advanced purchase on the ABDC website www.theabdc.com. Lecture topics include "Travel through the History of American Bellydance" and "Choosing Bellydance as a Career." Workshops cover dance technique, costuming, musicality, drumming and more.

The Friday and Saturday professional belly dance shows are not to be missed! Friday evening's performance showcases a live band playing classical Middle Eastern tunes with belly dance instructors from around the nation. Saturday night's Gala performance features Suhaila Salimpour and Bal Anat, a dance troupe and show with 30 dancers strong fusing tribal and folkloric belly dance into a showcase of dances from North Africa and the Eastern Mediterranean. The Bal Anat show, first performed in 1968 in San Francisco, inspired a generation of American belly dancers. Many consider this historical show to have led to the rise in popularity of the tribal belly dance genre. Advanced show tickets are $15 for Friday and $25 for Saturday if purchased online. Tickets increase by $5 at the door. Doors at 6:30pm and show at 8pm.
